VW Polo: hybrid plug-in version in the works

AutoWeek.nl has reported that in the coming year, Volkswagen will have a high fuel efficient Polo hatch with a plug-in hybrid powertrain to launch. A plug-in hybrids can recharge the batteries using an external power source. In a normal hybrid, the electricity generated by an on-board equipment involving the motor to the battery. The plug-in option makes it similar to an EV.

Volkswagen boss Martin Winterkorn in an interview with the German car magazine Auto Zeitung said it was "required" at least one plug-in hybrid model. Or the Gulf or the Polo is likely to debut this technology first.

Last year, Volkswagen said that work on the next generation Polo is underway. The next generation Polo uses the company's new MQB architecture kit.

Plug-in Hybrid vehicles are ideal for the medium term to reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. Pure electric technology infrastructure needs of countries like India want. Until an infrastructure is set up, plug-in hybrid technology leads the way to a cleaner and greener cars.
